Even The Best Need Help

WHY WE ALL NEED A COACH (NOT A TRAINER).

“To know and not do is to not know at all.”

This might be a familiar throw away quote to some, but it absolutely rings true for me. Most of us know what to do in fitness, health, life etc, but if we don’t then we definitely need to find someone to guide us and to teach us, or at least provide that motivation.

A fair few years ago I came to the realisation that everyone needs a coach, even coaches need a coach. This epiphany was my first step in the right direction and a massive move towards my own personal growth. To think we know everything is the first sign of stupidity. It will set you on a path of self destruction, jealousy and repetitive failures.

For this reason, her are six others to highlight why you should have your own coach (even if you are one yourself!)

  1. Accountability –  which I call the key to success. We can all set a goals but to we need to break it down into actionable pieces and then have someone keep you accountable. It’s not always that accountability will make you perfect but it makes you aware of your down falls as sometimes  we are more talk then action.

  2. Perspective – they can see our situation without emotional attachment. And tell you know it is/give you the uppercut you need. Coaches also don’t see the mental barriers and only try to see solution.

  3. Focus – they are paid to get results and can keep focused on the end goal when sometimes it can get blurry for us.

  4. Pace – the good coaches will tell you to slow down when needed. Sometimes we just need a simple – “be patient, your hard work will pay off”

  5. Question – good coaches ask good questions an inspire you to take charge/keep motivated

  6. Challenge – they challenge your potential, push your limits and point out bad habits

I myself have a business and personal development coach and also call on a triathlon coach during my ironman prep. I am also a part of great group of strength coaches that mastermind ideas and help each other succeed. It works the same way for weight training. Most people know what to do in the gym but struggle to keep accountable, get results, be creative with programs , pick up form , prevent injury and find new limits. This is were the struggle lies and having a coach or a network of coaches alleviates this struggle incredibly. We all have a default mechanism and that is to fall into old ways and cut corners, especially when we are busy.

Finding a coach that can keep you accountable, on track and honest will save you from falling down the same holes.
